【摘要】:Vinylchloridemonomer(VCM)isthestartingmaterialforthemanufactureofpoly(vinylchloride)(PVC),whichisusedextensivelyinconstruction,electronics,packaging,andotherindustries.Thevinylchloridegascanescapeduringmanufacturing,transportation,andpolymerizationstages.Residualmonomercanalsoescapeduringsubsequentfabricationprocesses.Vinylchlorideisatoxicandexplosivehazardousmaterial.Vinylchlorideissuspectedtobeacarcinogenicagent(4),andoccupationalexposurelimits(OELs)havebeenestablishedforthisagent.Forinstance,thepresentU.S.OccupationalSafetyandHealthAdministration(OSHA)standardforVCMis1.0ppm(v)witha0.5-ppm(v)actionlevel;themaximumlengthofoperatorexposureat5ppm(v)is15min.Themethodismadeselectiveforvinylchloridebychoosingchromatographcolumnsthatwillseparatevinylchloridefromotherorganiccompoundsinthesample.Themethodmeetsrequirements(forexample,thoseofOSHA)formonitoringworkplaceatmospheresinvinylchlorideandpoly(vinylchloride)productionandfabricationprocesses.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesthedeterminationofvinylchloridemonomer(VCM)inworkplaceatmospheresusingamodifiedcharcoaltubemethod(seePracticeD3686).1.2Thisprocedureiscompatiblewithlowflowratepersonalsamplingequipment.Itcanbeusedforpersonalorstationarymonitoring.Itcannotdetermineinstantaneousfluctuationsinconcentrationtodetectmaximumvalues.Alternativeon-siteprocedures,suchasgaschromatographyorinfraredspectrometry,mustbeusedtomeasurefast-changingconcentrations.1.3Therangeofthistestmethodisfromthelimitofdetectionofapproximately0.01to100ppm(v).1.4Thesamplingmethodprovidesatime-weightedaveragesample.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsshallberegardedasthestandard.Inch-poundunitsareprovidedforinformationonly.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Formorespecificprecautionarystatements,seeSection9andWarningsin10.2.3and11.1.3.
