【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandarddefinestheschemarequiredfordescribinggeographicinformationandservices.Itprovidesinformationabouttheidentification,theextent,thequality,thespatialandtemporalschema,spatialreference,anddistributionofdigitalgeographicdata.ThisInternationalStandardisapplicableto:—thecataloguingofdatasets,clearinghouseactivities,andthefulldescriptionofdatasets;—geographicdatasets,datasetseries,andindividualgeographicfeaturesandfeatureproperties.ThisInternationalStandarddefines:—mandatoryandconditionalmetadatasections,metadataentities,andmetadataelements;—theminimumsetofmetadatarequiredtoservethefullrangeofmetadataapplications(datadiscovery,determiningdatafitnessforuse,dataaccess,datatransfer,anduseofdigitaldata);—optionalmetadataelements-toallowforamoreextensivestandarddescriptionofgeographicdata,ifrequired;—amethodforextendingmetadatatofitspecializedneeds.ThoughthisInternationalStandardisapplicabletodigitaldata,itsprinciplescanbeextendedtomanyotherformsofgeographicdatasuchasmaps,charts,andtextualdocumentsaswellasnon-geographicdata.NOTECertainmandatorymetadataelementsmaynotapplytotheseotherformsofdata.
